Are you an outdoors lover who loves snow but you don’t ski? Do you also love discovering great food on holiday and getting to know the locals? If so, then this snowshoeing and gastronomy adventure is just what you’ve been looking for.
Based in the picturesque Aure Valley area of the central French Pyrenees, you will explore a winter wonderland that is so very different to the hum and bustle of the ski resorts.
The snowshoeing excursions will be in small groups of up to 10 people, but we can also arrange private outings for your group if you wish.
Snowshoeing experiences
This snowshoeing week in the Pyrenees will include the following experiences, all accompanied by an expert local guide;
- an easy snowshoe outing in search of animal tracks followed by a tartiflette lunch
- an evening torchlit snowshoe excursion with traditional Pyrenean ‘garbure’ meal
- afternoon outing including crepes and hot chocolate or mulled wine
- a day of snowshoeing to conquer your first peak
Gastronomy on your week in the Pyrenees
In the course of this snowshoeing adventure holiday you can expect to sample some of the Pyrenees’ outstanding gastronomy and local specialities.
Garbure is a hearty Pyrenean speciality consisting of tarbais beans, cabbage, ham and other vegetables and is just the ticket after your snowshoeing exertions.
Tartiflette is a traditional mountain dish which includes potatoes, cheese, bacon and onions. It’s hearty fayre and often accompanied by mulled wine.
The level of snowshoeing
Snowshoeing for all levels is available in the Pyrenees mountains but you’ll get the most enjoyment out of your stay if you’re a regular walker.
If you opt for private group outings then the difficulty level will be adapted to your ability.
