This women’s introduction to ski touring course in the French Pyrenees is your opportunity to learn how to make effortless stylish turns in perfect powder in an un-tracked backcountry winter wonderland.

About learning to ski tour

If you’ve always avoided venturing away from the groomed slopes due to a lack of mountain knowledge, lack of technique and a fear of the unknown then this residential ski touring course is just the ticket.

Ski touring is also an ideal solution if you’re looking for a more sustainable ski holiday where social distancing comes as standard.

Your British instructor James who lives year round in the central French Pyrenees is a high mountain guide and qualified BASI 5 level ski instructor.

He’ll use tried and tested teaching methods and draw on his 20+ years of experience to give you an unforgettable introduction to the addictive sport of ski touring.

In a safe and controlled environment he’ll teach you all the skills and technique you need to confidently ski far away from the busy hum of the ski resorts.

Why learn to ski tour in the Pyrenees?

Ski touring is a wonderful combination of fitness and off piste skiing, allowing you to access some of the most beautiful and remote wilderness that the Pyrenean mountains have to offer.

Unlike many Alpine resorts which struggle to offer gentle terrain, the Pyrenees have endless possibilities for the novice ski tourer where you can gain off piste skills in confidence and security

You can look forward to fabulous wide open and gently undulating powder fields, where you can learn the delights of your newfound passion without venturing too far out of your comfort zone.

With not a chairlift in sight you will soon realise the true meaning of complete wilderness. However you do as they say “have to earn your turns” so be prepared for a work-out!

Athletes from many sporting disciplines use ski touring and ski mountaineering for cross-training in the winter and you’ll soon find out why!

Ski touring course goals

During this comprehensive introduction to ski touring course, James will give you a step by step introduction to ski touring. You’ll learn;

  • ski technique for back-country skiing
  • mountain awareness
  • avalanche and snow pack awareness skills
  • how to use ARVA, probe and shovel with live practice sessions
  • how to apply and remove skins on your skis

The week will also include plenty of safety briefings and video analysis of your skiing too.

By the end of the week you will have gained a good basic knowledge of all the equipment, along with newfound mountain craft skills and should see great improvements in your own personal ski technique on and off the Piste.

How good a skier do I need to be?

To get the most out of this women’s introduction to ski touring course you should have a good level of on piste skiing and be able to ski a red run in control. You will also need a good level of general fitness.

Holiday insurance in a time of pandemic
